After protest marches in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Brazil, India and Korea (just to name a few), SlutWalk – a march against victim-blaming in rape cases – will be coming to Singapore on the 3rd and 4th of December.
From the SlutWalk Singapore x Kuala Lumpur Facebook page:
This is not just a “women’s issue” nor is it just a “men’s issue”; it is everyone’s issue. We seek to challenge the thinking that it is acceptable to live in a victim-blaming society as we do, where we are taught “don’t get raped,” instead of, “don’t rape”.
Due to Singapore’s laws on public assemblies and demonstrations, SlutWalk Singapore will not be a protest march per se, but a gathering at Speaker’s Corner in Hong Lim Park in downtown Singapore with speeches and performances.
Fringe events such as film screenings and panel discussions will begin in Singapore November 12. A list of activities can be found here.
